Still trying to figure out why I can't get consistent results using smart BASIC GPS commands. Sometimes they work fine for a period of time, which indicates to me that my code is written correctly (I always read until GPS_COUNT () returns 0). Then I start to get many, many identical consecutive readings, almost as though GPS has suffered a brain freeze. Eg. I can sit unmoving for multiple position checks and it will repeatedly report that I am moving at 4.2 km/hr!
Does the position that the phone is held in affect the readings? I believe that the phone screen has to be parallel to the ground to read the compass heading. Most dedicated GPS units stand vertically with the screen in horizontal aspect, so I wondered if the phone must be held this way. I have been putting it into a belt holster while using my GPS tracker program, but it holds my phone with the screen vertical in landscape position.
